Yeah. I think it’s hard in the limited space of a comment to explain it all. you can have a psych PhD and utilize the degree in a way other than Clinical Psychologist, licensed and registered to provide psychotherapy. And a psychiatrist pretty much prescribes meds these days. All good.

A PhD in psychology is known as a psychologist. They can go for licensure to treat people with mental health issues. An MD in psychology is known as a psychiatrist. They have to pass medical board tests & psychiatry specialty exams. They generally are the ones to prescribe psychiatric medications.

PhD’s, PsyD’s and EdD’s can be licensed mental health professionals. They would be known as psychologists. An MD or DO practicing in the mental health specialty is known as a psychiatrist.

How stupid is this? For years, I worked as an ordained minister. Did I get any “special marriage training”? NO! Did the couples I married divorce any less than any other couple bcs of my credential? NO! Texas is in the dark ages. Let couples be married by whoever makes them happy.
