Macc Sustainable Travel
@fhvjhvgvb.bsky.social
Sustainable travel is my thing. Pedestrians, cycling, public transport. Our Council is extremely car-centric and has poor track record on delivering active travel options. CEC = Cheshire East Council. Green Party Member. Cycling UK local rep.
...it doesn't; obviously!

So yesterday morning this was across the drive. 4 hours, six people and three chainsaws and the drive was clear. Exhausting.

Guessing that Buxton market in Buxton marketplace predates it being used as a carpark?

CEC started consultation about some more active travel provisions along here about 5 years ago. The plans changed at least 3 times. Nothing has been done because it's taken so long that they now can't afford it.

Reduced bike parking at Macc Railway Station. There was a large well used facility. This photo shows the new facility on a Sunday morning. It could easily have been larger.

A walk into town yesterday shows that we could really do with some proper bike parking. CEC still engaged in 5 year study for local bike parking.

Where would we be without the folks on Facebook?

New measures to control parking at Stepping Hill Hospital. If you work there and live nearby, maybe driving will not be the best way to get to work. Interesting initiative.

So today I attended the local Police Surgery and discussed pavement parking and poor/dangerous parking by drivers (all too often displaying a blue badge). The surgery was close by but inevitable on my ride there, there was an example.

Ride will be about 90 minutes. Weather permitting. Starts Cornershop Cafe, Brock Street. Ends Buxton Road (possibly for pizza).

Plenty of room for cars of course.

Thrilled to discover that CEC is intending spending some of their little funding for active travel on a project to photograph active travel in the area. I suppose it's an easy and uncontroversial way to spend the money.
