I wonder if the number of ICE agents saying “have yall not learned” indicates deliberate training from ICE leaders to coach agents to say that.

Does “send you to DC” mean chipping in for gas money to get you there in your Honda Fit?

He was old enough to be interested in the election. All the grownups get together to choose who will make the grownup rules, and who gets to enforce the grownup rules. I might have accidentally implied that police are elected officials, but that’s probably not super important to correct pre-k

I hope this doesn’t stray into sounding like advice.

I have a 4 year old and we’ve been talking about government in terms of “grown up rules”. Police enforce the grownup rules. Police are mean to bad guys and they have to be! Police are mean to people they think are bad, but they’re wrong sometimes

lol. I’m pretty confident I heard @ilhanmn.bsky.social say “abolish ICE” in 2018, and I wouldn’t be shocked if it was from earlier than that too .

Does this do a better job of explaining Japan than the reserve currency explanation too? I don’t know the details well, but I think they’ve been able to issue a lot of debt, and maybe that was possible because of low rates and domestic ownership of the debt too?

Another important type of chess draw comes from repetition. A player might be able to force their opponent to repeat a position endlessly, and even sacrifice pieces to force a draw this way while losing.

Go makes repetitions illegal. If chess borrowed that rule, it would probably have fewer draws.
January 4, 2026 at 3:36 PM
I don’t have actual stats on this, but I’d guess most chess draws in games between strong players occur as a result of both players trading material and winding up in an even position where neither player can make progress.

Adding Shogi’s drop rule to chess would prevent “low material” draws
January 4, 2026 at 3:32 PM
In go, draws are technically possible under some rulesets but they’re usually impossible.

In shogi, a player can capture an opponent’s piece and then “drop” it back on the board as the player’s piece.

If chess allowed “dropping” pieces in that way, I suspect it would have fewer draws too.

Do we have any good comedy bits yet about Maduro being illegally trafficked into the US by an international organization with long standing ties to terror groups, dictators and drug lords?

There’s a child in my kid’s daycare named Elara, and I’m curious if they know that’s one of the super common LLM names

Sounds very susceptible to fraud from a bunch of dads overestimating how much they take care of their children. On the other hand, making that legally prosecutable fraud in some way could have positive social impacts!

I don’t think you need to assume an ideal allocation. You just need to be able to say that the discounted cash flows of some big project can’t possibly be positive at some acceptable interest rate.

That still requires some major assumptions about the expenses and anticipated revenues!

And aren’t they supposed to be roughly 7 and 3 or something? I’m pretty sure American kids are big enough to front face by that age.

Or “Be Zeus, not Atlas”.

It reminds me of things I don’t like about Jordan Peterson. There’s a weird mix of “be an individual”, “be accountable to yourself”, but also paired with a LOT more “I’m so persecuted by society and I want it to stop WAH” than is appropriate for the individualistic ideas

And this isn’t an attempt to speak positively about the ideology. I’m just trying to say that they’re intentionally presenting themselves as burdened figures who should free themselves.
December 28, 2025 at 9:37 PM
Isn’t the point of using Atlas there to highlight the curse, and that a “high agency Atlas” wouldn’t bear that burden for others?
