UK cyclist, interested in EVs, net zero, science and technology, road safety.
I always wonder what these engineers, and more likely their political bosses, think is an acceptable no of deaths on their roads.
Could they justify that level? Could they justify to victims' families, that making roads safe may have added seconds to a journey?
War on cars, no war on people!

Well there's a surprise. Are our governments corrupt and unwilling to give up the petrodollars on offer to 'support their work', or are they just too cowardly to risk upsetting voters?

Who cares about the future when there are elections to win and money to pocket.

I think there are some drivers who truly believe that speed limits and the highway code don't apply to them.
Basically in their head, when they bought the car, they bought the road in front of them. They decide on speed and how they respond to and treat other road users and pedestrians.

The BBC are part of the anticycling campaign. They have to be or they will be criticised by the Mail, Telegraph etc.

Anyway, he is so fast that their sports journalists will think that he is on an 'illegal e-bike, and therefore shouldn't be encouraged

A friend of mine ranted and raved about Greta, probably because he knew that she was right, so I sent him a link to the video and he's not mentioned her since.

Yes but ebikes are dangerous because something something something, so there

And speeding cars have never hurt anyone, well nobody important. And speed limits are woke and speeding fines are just money raising scams, everybody knows that.

I might get a job in the MSM now, hello BBC, the Mail?

You have missed the point. It's so the driver can get out of the car and start to walk along the path without the bother of walking to it.
Please won't you think of the poor drivers!

I bet the oil companies involved are receiving subsidies and tax breaks, but a carbon tax is toooo much for them.

In addition to these family cars, I drove a series of pool and company cars. I worked for an Electricity Board in a rural district, but never had an SUV.
Morris Minor

Ford Orion
Plus a few more

In 30 years of standby duty, I only needed a lift in a 4*4 3 times.

Be fair, it probably leapt out in front of her.
November 29, 2025 at 3:44 PM
That's too complicated for journalists at the Mail, Telegraph, Times and the BBC, and probably the rest.

Can't you make it simpler to understand, they aren't too bright.

So the Christian thing to do is have families starving on the streets, barefoot children begging.
I suppose there could be workhouses, but is providing basic food and shelter too unchristian.

It shows her lack of intelligence and empathy and a belief that the poor are poor due to their laziness.

So they will commission a new system to collect the necessary data. One of the big IT companies will get the gig at enormous price.
The project will overrun, the costs will escalate, and the resulting system won't quite work.
Overall cost will outweigh any income received.
Am I wrong?
November 27, 2025 at 2:23 PM
£30bn? I wonder what the actual cost will be, £40,50,60bn.
Does the dodgy cost benefits still work at the most likely eventual cost?
November 25, 2025 at 3:27 PM
This sounds like the kind of project where the best bits get dropped as development progresses. Can't be a walkable, safe place because people want their cars.
The trams are too expensive. People don't want wooden houses.
So standard 4/5 bedroom houses with garages and easy access to a motorway.
November 23, 2025 at 3:29 PM
The truth is that drivers have a voice in the main street media.
Propose a change to improve safety for pedestrians = war on motorists
Propose a cycle lane = war on motorists etc

The MSM owners and journalists are more likely to be car owners.

Any protest by motorists gets media coverage

But Private schools teach their pupils to be leaders, to instinctively know what's best for the country and the ordinary working man, (the boys are confused by women).

So it is natural that they form governments and why our country is in a magnificent state under their leadership or something... 😫

I'm sure there are people who still think that he should return to parliament and government, because he is so brilliant that he can talk Latin, and he's an entertaining man of the people. (Which people, I cannot say)
November 21, 2025 at 10:12 AM

Perhaps they are in love with the donations from the gambling companies.
