As Ben Bradlee would say, this leadership is akin to a “miserable, carping, retromingent vigilante.”

The best friend of any country’s left is Elon Musk.
Takeaways:

1. Likely outcome: Conservatives (CDU) take back the chancellorship. They'll need a partner for a majority; likely a 'grand coalition' with the SPD.

2. AfD at highest level. But also underperforming polls + down from when Vance + Musk intervened.

3. Die Linke surged in final weeks.

Rep Raskin has been great. Rep Ocasio-Cortez has been great. And Rep Frost and Rep Crockett. Senator Murphy. Maybe no one knew exactly what to do. But such people laid down a clear marker. Let’s respect these and other elected federal representatives who stood out these first few weeks.

My book (utppublishing.com/doi/book/10....) launches Wednesday! Rather than stressing,* I'm making a big thread of work by people who show up in my acknowledgments--because I'm SO grateful to all of them, but mostly because they write weird, wonderful, genius books 💜

(*still definitely stressing)

Again, there are 40 men currently on federal death row, a number of whom will certainly be executed under Trump, whose sentences Biden has the power to commute.

Make sure he knows they're waiting to hear from him, too.

I’m dealing w/ mortal dread by creating projects for myself—such as putting together a list of 2024 books/articles of literary criticism (broadly conceived) by contingent (NTT, indie) scholars for @contingent-mag.bsky.social. Spread the word! Tell me & @hartmann-villalta.bsky.social what you wrote!
A reminder that @contingent-mag.bsky.social publishes lists of books and articles produced by contingent historians at the end of each year. If you wrote something, or know someone who did, submit the info here so I know to included it! contingentmagazine.org/yearly-pub-l...
