Personal - human, cyclist, climate/energy policy nerd, and owner of one of the last Fernando handles left.

Professional - Federal Director of Policy and Government Affairs for the Canadian Renewable Energy Association.

He/Him
My @jamesglave.bsky.social inspired clean energy tattoo sleeve is coming along nicely.

I started with a wind turbine blade through the heart, and just added a Francis Turbine runner, next up solar, storage and the ever so classic "maitres chez nous" fist with lightening.

This is what peak performance looks like.

It is a 20-minute walk to the Parliamentary Precinct, a 15-minute walk to the Byward Market, a 10-15 minute bike ride to Lansdowne Place, a 20-30 minute bike ride to Gatineau Park, and features the Rideau River multi-use pathway system and Strathcona Park right nearby.

The dragging of the Speaker of the House of Commons is one of my favourite absurd traditions in the Westminster Parliamentary system. It is a beautiful thing.

I hope Francis does not get get his head chopped off should the Commons displease His Majesty King Charles III, King of Canada.

Both of my sports are on! My beloved @atleticoottawa.bsky.social are away to Hamilton Forge, and a new Canadian Federal Cabinet is being sworn in.

It's a beautiful day for Ottawa.

And I built the wall so that my house would actually have three separate rooms.

The previous owner had carved a strange hole with a slop between my home office and spare room.
May 12, 2025 at 12:38 PM
I spent the weekend building a wall. Most of the supplies were hauled in my little Hyundai Accent, including the 8' lumber and baseboards. The drywall was transported in my uncle's small panel van.

These little vehicles had less hanging out than most of the monster trucks parked at the Home Depot.

Either showing up 25 minutes before kick off is too early, or every other @atleticoottawa.bsky.social fan is out voting at the Advanced Polls.

Come on you Boys in Stripes! Ottawa is Red and White!
April 19, 2025 at 4:41 PM
Okay so it took 54 minutes to cast my ballot, and there was a huge line up when I left the polling station.

Curious to see what the turn out numbers are after today.

People are motivated to vote.
April 18, 2025 at 2:35 PM
There is a 45 minute wait to vote at the advanced polls in Sandy Hill. We are lined up outside the building.

I guess everyone is excited to vote.

Spring has finally arrived in the Ottawa Bubble, the Met is setting up its patio.

This weekend my buddy Seb at Tiger Tiger Tattoo helped me ensure that my favourite lap panther is always with me.
March 31, 2025 at 1:55 PM
Well something exciting came in the mail today.

Looking forward to reading it @laurentdcar.bsky.social, and getting it autographed - hopefully with a cutting remark.

It's too bad that the oil and gas sector is ruining it for everyone here.

Seriously, look at that increase! Also, look at those tonnes when compared to every other sector.

We see you Ag sector, but you're small potatoes here.

...and by "our Lord" I mean my cat Sam.

The Rideau River might be high.
March 21, 2025 at 9:27 PM
Back at my desk getting ready for a crazy week of advocacy for renewable energy and energy storage, but wish I was sitting on my couch reading while Sam serenades me with the son of his people instead.
February 24, 2025 at 1:44 PM
Now for a not so little post-voting lunch from @bammssnackshack.bsky.social

A real neighborhood gem.
February 22, 2025 at 6:31 PM
Okay Ottawa-Vanier candidates, cross me off your GOTV lists.

Look, I am here for that.

It's wild how similar the tower looks to the ones put up in 1993 at Crowley Ridge in Alberta - Canada's 1st wind farm. They had a capacity of 375-kW...

The facility was decommissioned in 2017 and replaced.

Now normally I am all about limiting the use of fossil fuels, but the urge to buy/rent a propane torch and start singing the Trogdor theme song...

After hours and hours of shovelling over multiple passes over 24 hours I'm running out of room for snow and burninating the snow will feel good.
February 17, 2025 at 3:40 PM
I walked to an All Candidates Forum for Rideau Vanier today in this weather, so did a couple dozen other people.

Kudos to:
Lucille Collard (OLP)
@myriamdjilane.bsky.social (NDP)
Christian Proulx (Green)
Coreen Corcoran (Libertarian)

Who turned out in this storm to speak with voters.

To make matters worse, the price of new transformers has shot through the roof, mainly because not enough of this essential equipment is produced worldwide.

For non #electricity folx, transformers are the equipment that underpins every electricity system in the world.
January 31, 2025 at 7:15 PM
You know you have worked in electricity policy for too long when this is the slide that shocks you to your core.

Sure, I knew we passed 1.5C of warming 💔 and could have guessed that capital flows and commitments to climate tech are rolling back.

BUT LOOK AT HOW OLD THIS ESSENTIAL INFRA IS!
F&^@!

This might be one of my favourite climate change indicator slides I've seen. It would be cool to see a Canadian version of this.

My colleague Phil suggested that charting the % of Algonquin Park that has Maple trees growing in it (it was the top end of their natural range)
