It was great to meet so many interesting people at the event who are applying the ESIM principles in various European football contexts. I look forward to continuting our conversations and collaborating on crowd mangement.

Key messages were to a) understand fans' social identities, b) empower supporters to express these identities in safe/legal ways, c) communicate with crowds to facilitate positive interactions and maintain dialogue, d) differentiate policing to only intervene against individuals who pose a threat.

This year I was delighted to welcome Ross Starke (Head of Football Operations) and Yannis Marr (Digital Content Lead) to lead the practical class, with a focus on social identity in leadership and communications.

Our Masters students a) learn the theory of the Social Identity Approach to Leadership, b) attend a Dundee United match to observe forms of leadership during matchdays, and c) participate in a practical workshop with club staff on how social identity processes are applied in their leadership roles.

For colleagues in Business Schools, the British Journal of Social Psychology was recently ranked as a 3* journal in the AJG2024 list, so it's a fantastic place to publish research on organisational and other relevant social processes.

President Carter even once indulged me in some banter about Scottish football which still makes me chuckle.
