I wrote this month’s Monthly Update on why GPT-5’s muted debut shows the limits of AI’s “scaling laws”, and why China’s more grounded, applied approach may ultimately prove the smarter play.

When you’re reading a NYT story about China’s latest censorship campaign and spot your old apartment in Sanlitun.

US Congress has formally invited the CEOs of Discord, Steam, Twitch & Reddit to testify on radicalization.

Why didn't they ask Kick to come too?

Is it just because those four were allegedly tied to Kirk’s shooter?

damn, I wonder what hell will be like for those countries? kindergarteners being gunned down in their classrooms and nothing being done, families bankrupted by healthcare tied to their jobs?

“I have not looked at the comments this individual has made,” Ley said.

Well, maybe start with that, Susssan.

Lots of sharp, uncomfortable truths in this piece by Cheng Lei.

Few in Australia write about China with this much clarity, complexity and lived authority.

Really masterful soft power move from China here.

Detain the entire Aussie press pack during a prime ministerial visit and grill them about visas.

How should we interpret Ed Husic’s public calls for government action?

Now that he’s been dumped from cabinet, are these just the policies Labor has no intention of pursuing?

Bizarre censorship on Bilibili: all comments on videos of the kid’s song 'The Snail & the Oriole' (《蜗牛与黄鹂鸟》) have been wiped. No explanation given.

The song is innocuous, but maybe it was being used as coded dissent? Sarcasm about slow progress?
