Sylpha's best friend, Valda, sneaking in to observe the Captains Circle meeting.
Valda was a coward, something he never lied to himself about, and something he never really hid. Ever since he was young he’d weasel his way out of fights and run straight into the shadows. Discovering that the shadows were more than just shadows for him though had opened up the world and new possibilities to him. The shadows were his friend, and it was the shadows he used now to secrete himself in the rafters of the Circle meeting room. A large room he’d been in multiple times before to hunt out spots to hide out in or too listen in on conversations. Long years of thievery and sneaking had given him an almost uncanny ability to find all the gaps that could hold his weight, nimble fingers and soft shoes being assets for this kind of work. Before long he’d worked his way up to the first of the rafters that crossed the ceiling. Rafters in a place like this had struck him as odd at first as the flags of each captain already hung on the wall, although it looked a little crowded. But he wasn’t going to complain now, not when he’d be in serious trouble if any of the pirates spotted him. No one ever looked up, so he figured he was safe…just as long as he got into place before anyone came through those doors. The wood groaned under him as he shimmied himself into the best possible perch from which to view everything. Particularly loud groans made him wince and he’d wait a moment before moving on a little more cautiously. This was slow, grimy work, and it was the reason he’d skipped when most everyone ate breakfast just to do this. He’d managed to wheedle some fruit pastries from the cooks earlier though, the memory of being caught because of a hungry belly always fresh in his mind. Finally he reached a point where three rafters connected and he sat on the point they all joined. Carefully he tucked his legs up and released the flow of magic that held the shadows around him. The pain eased first. Normally she'd relax, but not while Alim stood in front of her and held her hand like this. Pale blue embroidery decorated the edges of the high collar of the robe he wore, not that it was noticeable under the collar she got the full effect of now. He must really like matching things, as the jewels that formed petals in the vines of gold were light blue, with pearls scattered to imply flower buds. Her skin itched and she tried to pull it back. Alim tightened his grip on her wrist and grasped her elbow with his other hand. A clear message to stop. Pippa hissed at him but held still. She didn't like being under the Witch Kings sole attention. Gritting her teeth, she told herself she had better get to used to right quick, she'd be the object of his undivided attention in the days, weeks, months, and years to come. And decades beyond that. At the least she was forced to consider again the fact that he wasn't unattractive in her eyes. Quite the opposite.

And back to Trials for this one....in which Sylpha does a very normal thing
And this one wouldn't need those fangs any longer. In the span of a moment, Sylpha pried the nightstalkers fangs from her mouth and held the bloody things up to the light. Even smeared in black, they could compare to well worked ivory. Either nightstalkers teeth could repel decay or a strict diet of blood kept their teeth in order, because Sylpha had never seen any nightstalker with even a hint of yellow on their teeth. Not even Koric's appeared to have touched with time. So much better for Sylpha, it meant she didn't have to fuck around with trying to remove any staining before boring holes into them. They'd look nice alongside some silver. Pocketing the fangs, Sylpha moved on to check how many more people were injured or dead.
