A real-life example of a "Glasgow Kiss".

FINALLY! Years ago we wrote an instrumental called "Unround Wheels".
Our time has come.

Coulda summed up the ingredients as "5 cups of NOPE!"

Thought it was an Armstrong but the headstock is throwing me off...

And now I can truly feel the holiday spirit.

Once I verified those were the correct replacements, I offered up what particular speaker cabinet they were for, what repair I was doing, why they usually need replacement, and any other info I could think of in case anyone else looks for these or does this repair.

Oddly, I opted to 'dive deeper with AI' and what came up immediately ID'd the jacks, and with a little more detail provided identified the exact model and provided links to purchase.
Weird.
December 7, 2025 at 6:58 AM
I then said they were Switchcraft brand - says on the back and visible in the photo - to which it doubled down that I was wrong and they were Mercedes igniters. I guess for a diesel?
December 7, 2025 at 6:55 AM
Got in my first - and I sincerely doubt only - argument with Gemini as I had it try and ID then find the jacks (they're weird end-soldered vertical mount, enclosed) from a photo I took of the jacks. It kept insisting I was wrong, that they weren't input jacks but were AKSHULLY Mercedes igniters...

I can also nerd-out about this.
December 7, 2025 at 6:47 AM
I need to understand the math because there's some inevitable tweaks that I need to verify. The cab is 200w program original, but I'm going to be popping in some new 8" rated at 250w ea and that might change the dynamics and force beefier caps.
December 7, 2025 at 6:45 AM
The formulas are gonna be fun. I haven't mathed in years.
December 7, 2025 at 6:40 AM
Got some formulas from my EE at work to calculate the filters as I want to verify they aren't degrading. Not worried about the inductors as they look fine but the caps are ~ 40 y/o. I don't want to replace the caps unless I have to, but I will be ordering spares for them as well.
December 7, 2025 at 6:38 AM
flowing some of those pads is gonna be a pain...
December 7, 2025 at 6:35 AM
Yay! Found and ordered the input jacks; two are mono 1/4" and the bi-amp side is two stereo jacks with double-NC connections which how it separates to filter. Interesting, and a little hard to find. Ended up ordering four of each so I will still have a full replacement set when done.

I was always impressed with this setup:

Apparently the input jacks become problematic so that's the first thing to look at. Clean if an option, replace if needed.
I'll talk to one of my engineers at work about how to evaluate the inductors. Those might be harder to replace.
December 1, 2025 at 9:48 AM
I think one 8" is original. The other 8" is a Carvin (200w) and the 15" Scorpion - most likely original.
December 1, 2025 at 9:43 AM
This cabinet is a freakin' monster. I run a Carvin R1000 head thru it and have the option of full-range or use the bi-amp on the head and take advantage of the automatic double path. We'll worth putting some TLC into.

You, sir, are a class act.

You're spelling it wrong- He's negotiating a 'piece deal'.

Been listening and studying Bach's Brandenburg Concertos while at work for guitar inspiration, told my (much younger) coworker it's been three weeks of "Bach and Roll" and got an eye roll for it.
damn kids.

Weird as I tend to see 'em mostly after I get off shift (swing) like they won't look like douchebags after 10 pm??
