Writing a transatlantic family history/memoir.
I'm going to run to the yarn store to get yarn for this shawl in case we're really snowed in overnight (though I'm always dubious of apocalyptic snowstorm predictions).

What three colors should I use?

End of an era. This is almost certainly the last year I will get to walk a kid around trick-or-treating. This one almost went out with his friends this year, but I got to enjoy a final time out.

So is there a dress code for these No Kings protests?

During our ten days in the UK, we mostly tried to think about anything other than the shitshow in the US, but on the occasions that discussion of current events/new was unavoidable, it was apparent that every single person we talked to thought Trump was a clown who was making the US look terrible.

Thanks, anonymous person on the Internet! I needed this today. 🥰

The words of Frederick Douglass have always resonated but perhaps never more so than today. They are a reminder that from its very founding, the United States has excluded many human beings from its lofty ideals of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

That never stopped being the case.

I'm writing about my grandmother, which means I am writing about jello salad. So I have to ask, what's everyone's favorite jello salad? I'm partial to pear and lime with marshmallows on top, although I liked it better before I learned that mayonnaise was one of the ingredients.

53 years ago today my grandmother was robbed at gunpoint while at work. At the time she had three living children, the youngest of whom was then 17. None of her three children had any idea this had happened until I came across the newspaper clipping and told them this year.

I have clearly watched WAY too many British murder mysteries because I read this newspaper clipping from 1914 while doing book research (my great-granddad is P.C. Waterman) & immediately thought there's no way that was an accident. The vicar needs to start interviewing everyone & digging for clues.

I'm just saying, we have better options for President.

This week was difficult in so many ways, but one of the true highlights was getting to meet @marthasjones.bsky.social and being able to tell her in person how her work inspired the family memoir I am now writing.

Thank you so much for your incredibly moving work, Prof. Jones!

How are you doing, Kelly? Great. I'm totally not sublimating my rage into obsessively cleaning up my family tree on Ancestry.com or anything.

Okay, historians/genealogists, can anyone tell me what this says? This is from my great-great grandfather's baptismal record in Essex, England, in 1856. The column is for his father's occupation. Everyone else on the page is a labourer, except for one farmer. This looks like something servant?

Today's research find is a poem placed in the newspaper in memory of my great uncle, who died on the first day of fighting in the Battle of the Somme.

I honestly don't understand how the Democrats haven't figured out how to capitalize on this better.

I promise you that whatever portion of the population thinks this is cool, we outnumber them by a lot. This is going to all come crashing down. I am appalled at the pain and suffering that is being caused along the way, but we will prevail as long as we don't give in to despair and keep fighting.

The American people are hungry for someone to fight for them. We need more Democrats to act like Elizabeth Warren and loudly proclaim that they're staying in the fight.
