This sounds awesome! What a cool project 👌
A book I am so excited about given my future research plans (and the current independent study I am overseeing here at Bowdoin) that I *audibly gasped* when I learned of its existence five minutes ago. Cannot wait to get my hands on a copy. 🤩

Dorothy B. Porter changed libraries 💜

The Dewey Decimal System used to only have two classifications for Black people: 325 (colonization) & 326 (slavery). Each book by a Black person was put into one of these classifications. A book of poetry? Classified as colonization.

Critical thread. ⬇️
A key finding of their research: “Media indoctrination and civil liberties repression are the most predictive of autocratic survival.”
How do autocrats stay in power?

Our new research dives into the strategies of political control—repression, co-optation, and indoctrination—used across 229 autocracies from 1946 to 2010. What we found will change the way you think about authoritarian resilience. 🧵👇

Sad news but an occasion to remember his contribution to knowledge 🙏
Pierre Sorlin, the trailblazing historian of cinema, has passed at 91. Minuscule of stature, he was an intellectual giant and incredibly generous colleague and mentor. Gifted with a photographic memory, he had a habit of reciting his written papers from memory rather than reading from a print-out.

I love Screen and I LOVE Glasgow ❤️ I'll be there, great theme and speakers and a fab city - what's not to like!
Didn't get into #SCMS come to Screen if you can. I might show you Glasgow as a Glaswegian. CFP open until the 15th, the theme is "returns" but open to all relevant topics, and abstracts are only 200 words: bonus @helenwheatley.bsky.social is the keynote.
