Because without that love, he could've been the ideal god of that world. Everyone would've been granted the "happiest ending" (even if, as we saw with Han Sooyoung and Yoo Joonghyuk's discontent, that's not really true). But because he felt love, Kim Dokja could not be a god. He was just a human.
