Check out Magic Poser. It doesn’t do animation, but you’d be able to easily put “horns” on a model and get references for all the complicated angles and perspectives and make key frames.

That’s fair, and I get how they’ve artificially constrained their options by sticking perhaps too closely to the formula for too long. Experimenting with deviations, then, can either be really successful—Metroid Prime—or really not: Other M.

Which is baffling, cuz Super Metroid is THE template for a 2D action exploration game, and Metroid Prime is how you do it in 3D FPS. Conversely, Other M is a stellar example of what NOT to do.
