Marx neither has a labour theory of value nor endorses technological determinism. Why haven't economists taken the critique of political economy into more consideration? For the same reason that apologists will never answer textual criticism of the Bible seriously: they're believers first.

In a communist society, nobody receives what is defined as Value. And this is for the better. Value, in that sense, is the defining control mechanism of a capitalist society. Everyone is forced to chase it, primarily in its actually apparent form — money.

Marx is actually very clear that the exploitation in capitalist society is about exploiting (using/employing) a worker to produce more value than they receive in wages. Value is specifically tied to commodities as a social form, and does not exist without commodities.
