Gentleman Wargamer
My oldest asked to build a model tank with me. She even wore her finest unicorn dress to mark the occasion. I recently found a Lindberg Battlefront Four kit - same that I built with my Dad when I was her age.

I’m so grateful for these moments.

To further visualize the "Hedgerow Hell" we've been gaming, here is a great tabletop to the real battlefield comparison.

The blue dot is the lane and field where a platoon of US Infantry were spotted by an MG42 Team from the stone house. The tactical problems presented by hedgerow country abound.

I’ve been wargaming Normandy battles a lot this year across the tabletop, boardgames, and PC. I’m reminded each time with greater depth of clarity what a nightmare combat was in the hedgerows.

On table tonight: Richard Borg’s The Great War. An underrated entry to the Commands and Colors series.

Running the concluding scenario to the Battle of Loos, 110 years later.

"We cut across a field, finding the going more strenuous in unbroken snow... Someone noticed nearby what appeared to be cord wood staked at the edge of the field. He went over to investigate. He pushed away enough to see this mound was not wood, but US soldiers, all dead!"

Happy General Anthony McAuliffe day! Remember, if you ever find yourself in life surrounded and asked to surrender, the appropriate response is clear:

NUTS!

[22/12/1944] When the 517th PRCT command staff finally reaches XVIII Corps headquarters, the situation is so unstructured that the orders to the 517th simply state that the first battalion to arrive is to be assigned to the beleaguered 3rd Armored Division in Manhay.
