This lady got lucky with a meteor streaking through her 20 sec exposure of northern lights on a cloudy night in upstate NY near the St. Lawrence River

This is a picture of the northern lights in Central New York recently, taken from a suburb of Syracuse. Really crazy mix of light sources.

This is one of the best news stories you will read anywhere about ICE raids and how ordinary people helped one man barely escape a one way trip to some godawful detention center.

I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA

So this guy who's been fishing the Salmon River in upstate NY since there's been salmon in it catches a rare record-breaking pink salmon over Labor Day weekend, but DEC won't recognize it because they 'retired' the record last year.

Wot?
This super-sized salmon just obliterated the New York State record—so why isn’t a state record?

The international 1.5°C target has not yet been missed, as this refers to a decades-long average, but last year’s record brings the world closer to doing so.

The censorship algorithm on Twitter reduced our audience by roughly 95%, and seriously, who does that to a wildlife biology & advocacy group ?

I kind of hate this widely-shared chart. While our life expectancy is too low and our health expenditure is too high, they are actually not particularly connected to each other. Most of the excess mortality is caused by cars, guns, and drugs - things that health expenditure has little to do with.
Bad, but expensive.

This place is getting serious. Been here since beta and my tiny follower count hasn't budged. Fine with me. More of a reader than a poster. But lately I've been getting tons of followers, so I changed my profile pic to the real me, replacing the pic of my spirit animal: 1980's-era Bryan Ferry.
