I spent this afternoon driving through the cloud covered Scottish highlands, along rainwashed winding back roads, listening to the Heavensward soundtrack. Just a perfect pairing.

Halfway through: Dense world building makes the opening of the book rather chewy, but insanely intersting character dynamics keep you hooked. Somewhere between Denzel Washington's character in Training Day, Judge Dredd, and Special Circumstances. Juicy revenge plots abound.

Getting a brand new book ordered that the library didn't have feels like a kind of victory of society working as intended. Something that is just rarer and rarer by the day.

There was a small debate on our survival game team about beds needing to be a certain distance from engines to give a rest bonus. I had to point out there is an entire fantasy of having an engineers bunk on a star ship next to the engines.

It's amazing that so many political commentators can wash their hands with "We where only trying to be fair, see things from both sides". You can never prevent a genocide by recognizing it after the fact! The historian's view of politics - a bodycount to be analysed after the fact.

I just had a cute moment in a pokemon TCG pocket match:
I held back my Espereon, waiting for the opponent to build up enough energy on their big EX.
When I revealed Espereon, and they realised that I had won, they dumped in more energy with Misty, just so we could see a bigger damage number 😂
