This year my sisters and my sister-in-law all came up to ring in the New Year with me in Seattle, while Shobhit is in India—I was especially excited for them to see the amazing drone shows we now get every year, but we didn't see them at all, thanks to thicker fog than I had ever seen.

Shobhit's visiting his mother in New Delhi right now, and this is both wild and horrifying. I just got on FaceTime to ring in the New Year on his side of the world (this happened at 11:30 a.m. Pacific Time), and he told me some of the smog was even visible *inside* his mom's apartment.
