Also worth mentioning that blunts tend to have thinner edges than feders (especially ones like Ensifers with I-beam geometries), which means they’ll pick up nicks and dents faster.
As such, they also simply won’t last as long durability-wise, as more stress risers = higher risk of blade breakage

This also brings forth the issue that the newton rating on most jackets are hardly ever actually tested/proven.

The rapier involved in this incident also had 11kg of flex, which I would say is on the stiffer end as far as I could tell. A couple of other makes we tested each had less than half.

So, those little pits shouldn’t be failure points since they’re fairly far in the flat rather than on the edge. Not a place where a stress riser can pop up

You’d get similar pitting if a blade rusted on you, but in most cases that’s not a structural cause for concern either.
