The haul from SoCal Swordfight:
the Albion Alexandria longsword and the Valiant Armoury Dagesse arming sword. Both extremely wide at 3in at the base.

I think with the volume we bought for our upcoming event, they did have to come LTL. The work comes in cutting to length and rolling the mats ourselves as they only come in bulk rolls.

Honestly, we may as well just build the tatami monoliths on pallets. Might make them easier to transport lol

My two new acquisitions, both made by Angus Trim:

Above: MTT #14. Real goofy thing. 23in blade on a longsword-sized hilt. Bought it for the comedy of it.

Below: XVIa.4. One of his most popular models with plenty of competition medalist users. Has a rainbow fuller! 37in blade.

The short of it is that the term “claymore” referred to basket-hilted broadswords in-period. The highland swords were just called two-handed swords in their time.

It was the later Victorians who incorrectly called one thing the other as both happened to have been used by the Scottish in the past.

Here it is, the long-discontinued Albion Chieftain.

Highland swords (NOT “claymores!”) are exceptionally hard to find outside of the low-end pricerange, as the guards are extremely difficult to make past a certain quality threshold. Every maker I’ve talked to hates doing them.

Sneak peek of a new acquisition

My first sword was a kopis from Devil’s Edge, and it was strictly OK.

I’d also picked up a superstition from one of my friends — blades aren’t to be named until they draw blood. Had one that became eligible, but I cast it out of my house. Far as I know, it’s haunting a military base in Florida now.

Good ol’ mordschlag.

Situational, yes, that situation being a judicial duel where the agreed terms are armor and sword only.

You even get some fun developments in that context where people designed swords with spiky pommels and quillons specifically for a more brutal mordschlag.

Look upon this sword that was considered historically anti-armor. It has an acute point and a fairly thick blade. Thruster, not a cutter.

The way it is anti-armor is that it is used to halfsword (one hand gripping the blade) and plunge the point into the gaps BETWEEN the steel plates.
