This doesn't even mention how this mindset engenders both toxicity towards new players (in an endless cycle because "You've earned your place & new players need to learn things the hard way") and a willingness to abuse any game system (after all why wouldn't you try to get every advantage in a game)

At its foundation, undergirding everything by WotC, is a belief of earned casual cruelty by way of sunk-cost
You read all those rules, "your" game created that, you put in too much time & (most importantly) money into this. Other games must be worse because otherwise all your effort was for nothing.

Magic the Gathering's top format is a fan created thing that has to have an unspoken rule of, "Ensure everyone has fun," because the game wasn't made for it in mind. But this MTG is the best tcg, because the game system allows for alt-formats to be created! Please ignore alt-formats in other tcgs

Every D&D player ignores half of the rules and rewrites another 25% so that the game can actually be fun. But like. What else can they do, you know? There are no other games like D&D and every other game's rules are only 40 pages, as opposed to D&D's 600, so obviously those games are lesser & worse.
