Fandom Alt Text reminder

Alt text helps with people with low vision, screenreaders, it provides more context for later searches, it can explain a pic’s background info, and it helps filtering out muted keywords contained in the image.

If you’ve spoken to me, I love your content!
Settings > Accessibility turns it on for an automatic reminder

If posting images with text, use your photos app to highlight copy the text so it’s readable as text.

Describe images like you would to a friend on the phone.

Context changes any image, it depends on your aim in including the picture

Twelve (12!!) posts to talk about not writing alt text

Even posting a picture without alt text [yet having the energy to write 12 posts thinking about the topic].

It’s willful anti-disability antagonism at that point.

It’s easy to remind, it uses ONE button, not 12 posts dismissing alt text use.

Alt text is like the caption of a photo

so if the picture doesn’t load you can read it

If the picture is confusing, like a celeb you don’t know, you have the caption explaining why the image is important,

and most importantly, it’s for screen readers - people with low vision still get the info.

Friendly reminder on how to change settings on the app to make alt text accessible. Go to the left side, click settings, Accessibility, and turn on the setting that says “require alt text before posting”

If you’re seeing this message, your content is beautiful! 🤩 but it’s inaccessible to all.
