I think another layer to this is DePodesta's poor decisions while working with the Cleveland Browns over the last decade. For one, he pushed for the Browns to trade for Deshaun Watson who has a very lengthy and already widely known at the time "Allegations and lawsuits" section of his Wikipedia.
