The second beer is an Irish Red Ale with notes of bread crust 🥖, biscuits, honey 🍯 and caramel 🍮 from the malt. A great after-work beer, which ended up being named "Leprechaun after-work delight" 💰🌈

New 🍺update:

A Belgian Witt with a base like a classic wheat beer🌾, but with spicy and fruity notes from the Belgian yeast which is supported by the addition of orange peel 🍊 and coriander seeds during the boil - a 1664 Blanc on speed! Truly a summer beer ☀️

Newest #homebrew 🍺: a Czech pilsner 🇨🇿 hopped with Saaz 🌿 and lagered for 30 days. Bready malt profile balanced by floral and spicy notes from the hops. The finish has a subtle bitter bite. Great beer to enjoy in the sun ☀️

Newest #homebrew 🍺: a West Coast IPA hopped with copious amounts of Citra and Galaxy 🌿 it's my first homemade recipe and I'm really proud of the results. Can't wait for spring yo come around so these can be enjoyed outside in the sun! ☀️

First #homebrew of the year 🍺 (well actually 2022s last): An Imperial Stout holding 9.2% ABV. Dark as the night ⚫ Lots of roasty notes from the malt, and we added coffee to take the taste in that direction ☕

I really can't recommend these things enough. They're cheap, reliable (at least so far), easy to set up and use, and gives a great overview over your fermentation process without disturbing it

The second beer was dark lager (my first lager) and was fermented inside a fridge in a basement with the wifi router on the floor above, and I still didn't experience any issues with the wifi signal whatsoever 📶

The first beer I brewed was a weissbier, and for this one I observed that the fermentation was already done after 3(!) days, and I bottled the beer after just 7 days 🤯

BrewSpy even provides Android widgets, which provides an overview of the status of each fermentation right from the phone's home screen and send notifications when certain event occur. Talk about digital brewing 🤖🍺

The devices are dropped into the wort after the beer is transfered to the fermenters...

Calibration takes a while (~1h), and requires pretty careful measurements. The gravity measurements of sugar water and associated tilt angles are recorded, and the relationship is modelled by a 2nd or 3rd order polynomial

One of the most satisfying sights for anyone who has been anywhere near a wetlab

These specific devices are iSpindels, which are the cheap, #DIY and #OpenSource versions of this device. You can either buy the components and solder them yourself, or, as I did, buy then off someone who knows how to do that

Furthermore, the devices have thermometers, making it possible to follow the temperature profile. This yields a great live overview of the status of the fermentation without opening the fermentation vessel and potentially contaminating the beer

... since this changes the device's floating angle. And by calibrating the tilt of the device to specific gravity readings, it's possible to receive on-line measurements of the specific gravity through the device's wifi module

Really excited to give these puppies a go in my next #homebrew project! 🍺 They're digital hydrometers that can be used to determine the progress of the fermentation. The way they do that is amazingly simple, yet really clever 👇
