"May I?" he asks, and he holds out a paw, his claws beckoning. He kisses the back of your hand.

The self-declared Prince of All Rats has the manners, bearing, and ambition to rule – and a personal interest in your acquaintance. Will you help the Fifth City to accept his claim?

You're in the honey-den business, though your plans extend far beyond that. There's a lot that can be done with several large mirrors, copious honey, and a pawn versed in the ways of Parabola.

Today we're releasing new Agents for Fallen London, focused on honey-dens, glasswork, and Parabola!

Huge props to AJ Hateley from Gametee who lovingly depicted neathy characters and concepts for our new Fallen London Arcana, all drawn by hand - and hand-painted! - with the utmost care and attention to detail.

How you respond to this legacy is up to you. Perhaps you’ll embrace your heritage; perhaps you’ll reject it, or ignore it. Perhaps you’ll try to take responsibility for it.

Then, horticulture was forbidden. In a single day, the power of the Mandrakes was broken. Many died. Some fled. And the lands of Chandley have been without them since.

Until you come home.

As rulers of the local lands, the Mandrakes had a profound effect on the landscape and society. They built a grand castle on the hill, and grew spell-gardens within its walls. They hunted in the woods, and dug mines into the cliffs and the mountains.

In our world, the Mandrakes were a human family. A house of old aristocracy, thought to have long since died out: magnates, gardeners and sorcerers.

Here are some real and actual facts about Mandrakes:

- Their smell could drive away demons
- It was a popular component of fertility spells
- Witches used it in the unguents which gave them the power of flight

So: the perfect plant to name our new game and its protagonist after.

Firmament Chapter Six has arrived in Fallen London!

Firmament is Fallen London's current main story arc, free to all players. It begins once you have progressed the Railway story arc as far as Ealing Gardens, although will require more progress in the Railway as chapters progress.

A pair of assistants wheel out a metal table, upon which a writhing, screaming number seven has been strapped. Its eyes roll around in its head. "Who would like to cut it open?"

This is what we're talking about when we say we're excited to have honest-to-goodness sunlight in our new game, Mandrake.

Lastly, we're excited to have shadows! They're an important part of helping the world feel like a real, natural space. They show time of day, and changing seasons, we’ll have tree shadows across a leaf covered path in autumn, and bird shadows from overhead...

We've got snow! Not like that so-called 'snow' in our other game, Fallen London. This is much less stinky.

One of the cultures that left its mark on the landscape is the enigmatic Sophoi empire.

They built these monolithic structures that ordinary people wouldn't have understood, even at the time. One of the things you'll do in Mandrake is poke your nose into what the Sophoi structures might mean.

We really wanted to capture a gradient as you move from civilization to wilderness, which has benefited a lot from a painterly, organic style.

The Deepwoods are a space where people rarely tread. We visited the Puzzlewood, a temperate rainforest in the UK, and found useful reference there.

We started with British landscapes. It’s very helpful of them to be as varied as they are, whether it's the Yorkshire Dales, Scottish Highlands or the east coast of Scotland (the entire art team lives in or around Edinburgh, so we've got loads of natural beauty on the doorstep).
