We're making Mandrake, a rural life sim set in a beguiling new world inspired by British history and folklore.

Now we're not in the Fallen London universe (Sunless Sea, Sunless Skies), we had the opportunity to add sunshine! And trees! 😮 🧵

the horror of the game is in the component parts, not just in the big scary eyeballs

a text post that reads: during steam's halloween sale i got the bundle of @failbettergames' fallen london-associated games - mask of the rose, sunless skies, and sunless sea. i've been concentrating on sunless sea first, and as i slooooooooooooooooooowly chug around trying to figure out where the moveable map squares are this time and also trying not to die again (i'm only on captain 2 so i think i'm doing good?), and i want to go at the faster-but-you-still-won't-blow-up speed because i'm impatient, but then your fuel consumption is higher and that means you might not be able to get back to port, so you have to slow back down, and a creature or another boat could show up and attack me at any point while i sloooooooooooooooooooooowly crawl across the map (and use up supplies faster because it takes more time to get places), i am constantly reminded of hbomberguy's video essay about the game pathologic, where he talks about how you can only walk, and you do so much walking, and it becomes part of the horror of the game that you can only ever walk. anyway sunless sea is a good game and the horrors (tm) are well conveyed through the game mechanics!

last night I cleared my second Fallen London ambition story, Light Fingers! really REALLY good. yes I redacted this much because I'd rather die than give away what this one is actually about. everyone play Fallen London imho
