Permit 04: Door Entry Authorization.
Filed. Signed. She no longer feels fear, only numbness.

Faye moves to step inside with her companion until the butler gently raises a hand, and a scowl crosses her face.

“Permit 98-F.”

“I just did the door!”

“This is the vestibule threshold. Different enchantment. It was attuned last week.”

“I am going to poison the air.”

“You’ll need Permit 202-B for that.”

Permit 05: Vestibule Entry Certification.
Filed. The ink is blotched and smudged. Possibly from rage-sweat.

Ahead lies a glorious hallway - gilded carpet, crystal walls, a whole finish line made of gold and suffering.

But then a clerk waves from the corner. “Permit 122-J! Directional Clearance to Approach Royal Hall.”

“I’m already walking.”

“Yes, miss. Illegally.”

The hooded man at her side trembles with probably mirth - he hasn't uttered a word since the vestibule and yet somehow she can still hear joy radiating off him in smug little sunbeams.

Permit 06: Throne Hall Approach Clearance.
Filed. She nearly rips the scroll in half before handing it over, yet the clerk accepts it anyway.

Faye reaches the massive double doors to the throne room, thinking finally she's free of this hell.

But, as per usual, the universe loathes her, and a new clerk appears like a summoned spirit.

“Permit 001-A.”

Her eyelid twitches. “What fresh hell is this one.”

“Lung Occupancy Form. Declaration of Intent to Breathe Royal-Grade Aetheric Air.”

“…My lungs require paperwork?”

“It’s heavily enchanted air, ma’am. Breathing it without authorization is classified as olfactory trespass.”

Faye stares down at her trembling hands, resisting the urge to throttle someone - she is either going to burn this place down, scream until reality cracks, or wilt away and transform into a vengeful ghost through bureaucratic spite.

The hooded man, after all this time, finally deigns to weigh in.

“You’ve done remarkably well,” he says, all velvet and sin. “Most don’t make it past the stairs.”

Her head snaps toward him so fast she nearly pulls a muscle. “You - you’ve been through this before.”

“Possibly.” He shrugs loosely.

“You knew what was coming.”

“Oh, certainly.”

“You enjoyed this.”

“Immensely.”

The doors swing open to reveal the throne - radiant crystal and majestic silence.

Empty.

Faye slowly turns back toward him, teeth clenched, breath sharp, about to leap at him. And with infuriating serenity, the man lifts his hood to unveil red hair, red eyes, and a maddeningly calm grin.

“Permit to address the Crown Prince?” he says, voice innocent.

Faye doesn’t scream. Yet. But she snarls.

✨ Day Three: Alternate Universe ✨

still don't have it in me to draw lately, but did finish revising more pieces wolgraha week at a glacial pace. This AU is one of the many AUs I have and is one I like to indulge in because it's mostly funny fluff 😅 1/?

WolGraha Week Day Three: AU
Permit AU. (Yes, I call it that since I don't have an official name yet… :'D This is just my goofy little fluff AU with deadpan slapstick horrors.)

The day starts with a spark of something far too dangerously close to optimistic. Not quite full-blown hope - Faye Zeja has come to expect the worst and is much too experienced for that - but just enough that she dares to believe that this might finally be it. The last round, the final boss, the ultimate layer of hell in her war against Etheirys' paper-cloaked hydra.

Faye initially made it through Ul'dah's flaming maze of paperwork just to leave the city, bandits who tried to mug her (joke's on them - she only carries rage), fourteen separate forms just to exist legally on her way to Norvrandt with Urianger and Y'shtola in tow, three clerical errors, and an anxiety attack in the archives. But today, she has everything - every form, every stamp, every signature, all neatly rolled, all labeled in her best handwriting to leave no margin for error. The wax seal is even disgustingly perfect.

A hooded man trails alongside her, quiet and smooth-talking, far too suspiciously helpful. He smiles like someone who heard her best secrets before she even utters a word.

"You looked lost," he'd said earlier as he watched her toss a quill into a reflecting pool out of sheer despair. “Permit affairs can be... distressing. May I help?”

And now, they walk together through one of the palace's offices, that's not even in the palace walls yet. This one is grandly and necessarily labeled Office for Palace Correspondence & Document Transmission Between Commoners and Crown - and before her brain can even catch up, a clerk looks up from behind a scroll tower and says, deadpan, “Permit, please.”

Faye blinks. “Come again?”

“Permit 44-D. Retroactive Authorization for Presence in Restricted Administrative Quarters.”

“I… I’m already here.”

“Yes,” the man replies, adjusting his spectacles, “It’s retroactive.”

The hooded figure beside her hums the sound of someone absolutely basking in her pain, and Faye exhales through her nose. “And… if I don’t fill it out?”

“Well, then, legally speaking, you’re a rogue agent contaminating royal aetheric zones.”

Her hand twitches toward her satchel.

“Oh, don’t resort to toxins just yet,” her mysterious companion murmurs. “You’ll likely want to save those for the next office.”

Permit 01: Retroactive Room Entry Authorization.
Filed. Triple copy. One might be signed in blood and tears.

The clerk gestures to the bridge up ahead, gleaming with crystal, the palace glinting in the distance like smug brilliance forged into architecture. “You may now approach the palace gate to submit your correspondence.”

She takes one foot onto the bridge before two guards moving with military precision and pettiness cross their halberds in front of her. “Halt. Permit to approach the palace?”

“You’ve got to be joking.”

“Permit 63-E,” one of them declares. “Document Submission to Royal Officials by Unaffiliated Persons.”

“I literally just came from the palace office.”

“Yes, miss, but that’s a separate jurisdiction. This is the palace grounds. Whole different realm of suffering.”

She turns to side-eye her companion who offers absolutely no help and zero remorse.

“Well,” he says with a tone utterly unbothered and far too light with amusement, “I did say it was like navigating a labyrinth.”

Permit 02: Gate Approach Authorization.
Filed. Approved. One guard even gives her a pitying glance as they let her pass.

She and her mysterious companion trudge their way to the base of the palace steps until -

“Permit to ascend?” a clerk chirps, standing beside the staircase with a clipboard that probably incited a few divorces.

Faye blinks slowly. “You need a form… to go upstairs?”

“Permit 89-A. Ascension of Symbolic Steps by Civilian.”

“There are eight of them.”

“Yes. Each step represents a pillar of Crystarium law.”

“I represent spite. Will that suffice?”

“Mm, that’ll be Permit 193-H.”

Permit 03: Stair Ascension Authorization.
Filed. Stamped with such force the paper tears.

At the top, there’s a door - but there is, of course, a butler just waiting right next to it like an urban legend. He smoothly utters a word so dreadful she cringes. “Permit?”

“…For the stairs?”

“No, those were cleared. This is for the door. Permit 111-C. Threshold Crossing Validation. The door is warded.”

“Let me guess,” she mutters. “Step too close and it turns into a crystal death trap?”

“Only for the unworthy.”

✨ Day Two: Hurt/Comfort ✨

I found it harder to write & revise this with grief weighing on my mind lately, but I tried 🫠 I'll revisit this in the future for sure though!

Faye presses a subtle kiss to his temple which stops him short. "Breathe. Focus on what you see around us. What you hear. What you smell." He closes his eyes as his breathing slowly relaxes, as he takes everything in around them. She continues rubbing his back softly. "You’re here now,” she whispers. “On the Source. With me. You survived. We survived.”

He leans into her more, arms wrapping around her waist, body trembling with the force of holding it all in too long. As the nightmares build ever since their return from the First, ever since the Exarch's memories had woven into his own, shadows and memories stitched upon the seams of his soul. His younger and older self layering atop one another, spiraling into the same fear: What if she dies and I cannot stop it this time?

She cradles him tighter, burying her face into his hair. “You don’t have to bear it alone,” she whispers. “You never did. I’ll carry it with you. Every memory. Every ache. Every what-if.”

The minutes pass slowly and tenderly as the candle burns lower. G'raha's breathing settles, and though he doesn't fall back asleep - too raw, too afraid - he stays curled in her arms, anchored by her warmth, the scent of her skin, the way her fingers card gently through his hair again and again.

When the tremors fade and he can finally meet her eyes again, he whispers: “I’m sorry.”

Faye smiles something soft and sad and fierce.

“You don’t have to be. You came back to me.”

G'raha releases a breath that nearly cracks.

“I don't who I am right now. Exarch. Scholar. Fool. I feel as if I’ve been shattered and stitched back together with someone else’s gold.”

Faye lifts his hand to her lips, planting a soft kiss to his knuckles, and whispers against his skin, “Then let’s find out who you are together.”

Beyond the window, the stars keep their quiet watch.

✨ Day One: First Meeting ✨

Faye, the Warrior of Light, wearing a hooded white mage outfit, thinking she spies something. G'raha Tia watches from above, a bit poorly concealed, taunting her along the way to the aethersand and driving her a just a little batty (affectionate).

"A compelling viewpoint. It is unyielding wills such as yours that have defined the course of history."

Thunk.

A shadow detaches itself from the scaffolding above, and a blur of red hits the ground before her with the smug finality of a curtain call. A drop, a flourish, a choice.

Faye leaps back. Not dramatically, but just enough that the heel of her boot bumps her staff, and just enough for her hood to slip, just enough to reveal the flick of mauve hair and telltale twitch of ears that scream what fresh hell is this.

“…Twelve above,” she mutters barely above a whisper, just loud enough for the Twelve, Cid and Rammbroes to hear.

The voice is familiar.

The voice is exactly who she thinks it is.

Garnet-silk hair. Smugness turned incarnate. A grin that could qualify as a war crime in certain regions. He lands like he practiced the motion in front of a mirror. Probably several mirrors.

G’raha Tia. The woodland whisperer. The self-appointed bard of her rage.

And he’s smiling. At her.

Faye's heart skips - not out of fluster, yet, but out of a bone-deep operatic type of indignation.

“So, you return at last,” Rammbroes says with arms crossed and tone dry as the Sagolii. “What, pray tell, has kept you so wholly preoccupied that you could not spare a moment to inform me of your progress or preservation?”

G’raha doesn’t miss a beat. “Why, the task you assigned to me, of course. Surely you’ve not forgotten about the aethersand? I passed it along to a most capable courier.”

His eyes flick to her again. Bright. Sparkly.

Faye huffs slightly.

“Greetings, adventurer!” he says as if he is not the reason she trudged through swamps. “Did I not say we would meet again?”

“You did,” Faye says with voice flat and a halfhearted withering gaze. “And somehow, you made good on the threat.”

He bows and she barely resists the urge to trip him mid-motion.

“I believe an introduction is in order. I am G’raha Tia, one of the Students of Baldesion." The flourish is unnecessary. The grin is criminal. The wink - because of course there’s a wink - is unforgivable. “I look forward to joining you on your groundbreaking expedition.”

Faye smiles, and it is the kind of smile that precedes a divine judgment.

“And I look forward to breaking ground. Specifically, the ground beneath your feet.”

I ran up to my #ffxiv house and just as I did - this appeared and I had a giggle.

A dialogue in FFXIV and notification notifying the user that they have not entered the estate for some time and it will be set for demolition soon, only to immediately be canceled right after.
