My question for the Covid conscious community is, how can we support each other in our grief? And how can we reach out to the safe people in our lives who can witness us in our grief, even if they aren’t living it? How can we stay connected as we stay safe? 🤍

It was a brief moment in time, but if felt so good to speak that aloud to a group of my peers and be held in compassion and acceptance.

At the end of the presentation, we went around the room and each shared something we grieved this week. I shared my grief around being Covid conscious in a world that has moved on, and the alienation I feel being the only one in my circle who still thinks about COVID.

Weller, informed by indigenous grief traditions and W African elder Sobonfu Somé, speaks of grief as a spiritual and cultural *necessity.* It’s our collective responsibility to hold each other in our grief with embodied expression and ceremony.

Our culture has forgotten how to honor grief. Kessler teaches that grief must be witnessed to heal. And eventually, we must find meaning to continue on despite our pain.

Weller wrote that grief isn’t limited to death. We grieve that everything we love, we will lose. We grieve the parts of ourselves that have not known love. We grieve the sorrows of the world. What we expected but didn’t receive. We grieve the unprocessed pain of our lineage.
