Pubs CAN afford these rates, they just know that they can pressure us into accepting less. "Sure, we'll only pay you $10/pg for coloring, but that other guy is only doing $5. You should be grateful." Comics is a billion dollar worldwide industry. There is literally no excuse.

I'm here to really hammer home that creators in the publishing industry are not employees. When you see rates and advance numbers, artists only get SOME of that money. A huge percentage goes to taxes, representation, insurance, etc. Take that number and cut it in half. That's what creators live on.
The comics industry has left creators to drown, so some are building lifeboats

I wonder how many people genuinely think that artists don't routinely fail at things. Like, start writing a story and it doesn't work out and you put it in 'the file'. Noodle around with a piece of music and decide it's not a thing. I assure you - artists fail constantly. It's a big part of the gig.
Just have the courage to make art and fail at it, please, before making up nonsense like creativity privilege

I think it’s notable that some of the first real limits on the use of generative AI were brought to us by labor. Not Congress. Not “ethical” AI shops nestled inside big tech companies. A union.
One of the best parts of the WGA deal: AI has now hit a brick wall in Hollywood, *and that includes adaptations.*

Based on the deal, AI can't be source material. So if you're a publisher, AI novels or graphic novels or whatever just became that much less appealing because *they can't be optioned.*
