This week, I spoke with one of the Duolingo contractors impacted by its 'new' AI strategy, and they clarified that
1) it's not new. Duolingo has *already* fired an estimated 100 writers and translators.
2) they worked for months training an AI system that still makes egregious mistakes.

As video game journalism outlets steadily disappear, we don’t just miss out on coverage of indie games that need exposure to succeed. We also lose important industry watchdogs. Fewer reporters means less scrutiny of labor conditions and industry practices, shifting even more power to AAA publishers.

This really hurts to see. Traditional Game Journalism has been dying for years and the news outlets that are left have become so morally corrupt, but Polygon was one of the last good ones. Now all we can look forward to is Content Slop, Corporate Shilling, and an oversaturation of Patreon Creators.
