The only Malaysian to have competed in F1, Yoong drove for Minardi in 14 Grand Prix between 2001-2002. His best finish was 7th at the 2002 Australian Grand Prix.

#HappyBirthday to Bernd Schneider, 60 today.

1987 German F3 champion, Schneider started 9 GPs (1988-1990) in uncompetitive cars (Zakspeed, Arrows) with a best finish of 12th. He would go on to far greater success in the DTM & GT racing.

#HappyBirthday to Giovanna Amati, 65 today.

The most recent woman to have entered the F1 World Championship, Amati joined a struggling Brabham team for the 1992 season. She failed to qualify in her three outings. Prior to F1, Amati had been an F3000 regular (1987-1991).

Remembering Chris Amon, born #OnThisDay in 1943.

Widely regarded as one of the best drivers never to win a World Championship GP, Amon took part in 96 GPs between 1963-1976, finishing on the podium 11 times (2nd three times). He won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966.

Remembering Tony Marsh, born #OnThisDay in 1931.

Best known as a six-time winner of the British Hill Climb Championship, Marsh drove a privateer Lotus-Climax-18 in two Grand Prix during 1961, finishing 15th at the Nürburgring.

Pole man Nico Rosberg (Mercedes F1 W05) won the German GP at Hockenheim. Valtteri Bottas finished 2nd in a Williams-Mercedes-FW36. Lewis Hamilton was 3rd in his Mercedes, having started 16th.

Running on a one-stop strategy, Nelson Piquet Jr. led laps 54-59 (after others made their final stop) & brought his Renault R28 home in 2nd position for his only F1 podium.

At Silverstone, Rubens Barrichello (Ferrari F2003-GA) won a British GP disrupted by a protestor running onto the track! Juan Pablo Montoya finished 2nd in a Williams-BMW-FW25. Kimi Räikkönen was 3rd in his McLaren-Mercedes-MP4-17D.

Following an incident, Peter Gethin had to take the start in the spare Embassy Racing Lola-Ford-T370 which was set up for the taller Graham Hill, Gethin came into the pits (on lap 1) to withdraw from his 30th & last GP.

At Brands Hatch, a second GP win for Jody Scheckter (Tyrrell-Ford-007), beating Emerson Fittipaldi's McLaren-Ford-M23 by 15 sec in winning the British GP. Jacky Ickx was 3rd In a Lotus-Ford-72E.

F2 racer Robin Widdows drove a works Cooper-BRM-T86B in what would be his only GP start. Widdows was running 12th at the time of his retirement (ignition) on lap 34.

At Brands Hatch, a maiden GP victory for Jo Siffert (Lotus-Ford-49B/Rob Walker/Jack Durlacher Racing) at the British GP. Chris Amon (Ferrari 312/68) finished 2nd on the day he turned 25. Jacky Ickx was 3rd in another Ferrari.

At Silverstone, Jim Clark (Lotus-Climax-25) made it four wins from five races, beating John Surtees (Ferrari 156/63) by 25 sec in winning the British Grand Prix. Graham Hill was 3rd in a BRM P57.

At Aintree, the first World Championship GP victory for a British car as Stirling Moss & Tony Brooks (first win) shared the victorious Vanwall VW 5 at the British GP. Luigi Musso & Mike Hawthorn finished 2nd & 3rd in their Ferrari 801s.

Brian Henton (Lotus-Ford-72E) was classified 16th, despite crashing on lap 54. Jim Crawford (Lotus-Ford-72E) also crashed (lap 28) out of the race. Henton & Crawford both making their Grand Prix debut.

In treacherous conditions, Mark Donohue (March-Ford-751/Penske Cars) went off track at Stowe & ended up in the catch fencing. The American was classified 5th, scoring his last F1 points.
