These bills are always in the name of "safety for children" and yet always turn out to be way more sinister than the protections they claim to give. Does this carrot-stick approach just work forever? We need a new amendment about the right to not be surveilled in all of its forms.
The GUARD Act may look like a child-safety bill, but in practice it’s an age-gating mandate that could impose a mass censorship and surveillance regime on nearly every public-facing AI chatbot. Tell Congress to oppose the GUARD Act today. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...
A Surveillance Mandate Disguised As Child Safety: Why the GUARD Act
A new bill sponsored by Sen. Hawley (D-MO), Sen. Blumenthal (D-CT), Sen. Britt (R-AL), Sen. Warner (D-VA), and Sen. Murphy (D-CT) would require AI chatbots to verify all users’ ages, prohibit minors

2026 is the year of Rust for me. Thanks, Golang, but I kind of fell in love with the crab.

People love to check out on this topic, but it's extremely important as we dive feet-first into fascism in America. Technology is undergoing a crisis in security and governance. we have people who don't understand it, enshrining into law benefits designed for suppression and control.

This is a myopic and middle-management perspective on AI. Developers have always been expected to have these skillsets and are under constant pressure to keep pace with tech and improve their craft throughout their career. Given that, the indispensable skill that should be taught is autonomy.
"The essential skill is no longer simply writing programs but learning to read, understand, critique and improve them instead. The future of computer science education is to teach students how to master the indispensable skill of supervision." 💯

As with other law enforcement, you have a First Amendment right to film ICE. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...
Yes, You Have the Right to Film ICE
Across the United States, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has already begun increasing enforcement operations, including highly publicized raids. As immigrant communities, families, allies,

I know this is very brave of me, but AI actually doesn't have a lot of value. Many "agentic" processes are just expensive automations that attempt to make a non-deterministic thing deterministic, and business-side implementations put IP at risk for reduced experiences and perceived productivity.

This was not some 4D cheese move. They still sold out your healthcare.

If the goal was to drive away users, then Microsoft is nailing it. I wonder which reality they receive their feedback from because it's not this one.

Government and law enforcement have demonstrated that they are willing to use every tool available to spy on protesters, people seeking abortions, immigrants, and many others. That’s why we need to fight surveillance where it matters most: our local communities. takebackctrl.org/stop-survei...

Alongside armored vehicles, local police are getting surveillance technology with help from the federal government. Learn what tech law enforcement have in your area with EFF's Atlas of Surveillance, where we’ve documented thousands of examples: atlasofsurveillance.org/

Is the robot going to stare at me like that as I take my last breath?
🤖👩‍⚕️ Most people are cautiously open to using robots in home care, according to a new international study. Caregiving robots are expected to play an important role in the future of care services as many countries experience declining birth rates and ageing populations.

Only centrists and right-wingers would argue the "merits" or "nuance" of an article questioning women's value in the workplace. Hate is a casual, guilty pleasure for some.

Don't expect any motion from established democrats. They are centrists, nearly indistinguishable from the right. I see people here thinking Jeffries or Schumer may actually capitalize on the wave. They won't. Can't. It will crest and wash over them until we see them voted out.

Reminder that you people proudly claiming to be centrist are useful idiots. You may be dumber than conservatives, who at least stand for something. Pull out the fence post and support real change.

$40b to Argentina and a plan to source meat from Argentina for the U.S. in an effort to bail out a shitty bet made by a conniving and corrupt economist after programs that help Americans are cut off from from their funds and internally dismantled - In case you forgot.
