using the windows snipping tool passes the file on your computer to the browser, effectively acting as a drag-and-drop, which this editor then interprets as an attachment. mystery solved

i found out that this is because firefox actually copies the image itself to the clipboard when you do right click -> copy image. edge and chrome just hotlink. rude

folks, for some reason the image I had pasted into the editor had not been attached as a file, but rather it had been inserted as a png as base64 data directly into the HTML img tag. then, in the background, the spell checker was checking that entire mass of ASCII characters as a string. aaahhh!!!!

I was going about my business writing an article, when suddenly firefox is using an insane amount of memory. After some investigation it turns out this is all because of a spell check process. Strange!
