Besides the (alleged) sexual harassment and quitting the network, #AnaKasparian and #JimmyDore aren’t any different. Both are willing to be as charitable as humanly possible to their new friends on the right and equally as uncharitable to and cynical towards their past political allies. (2/2)

Other than (alleged) sexual harassment and quitting the network, #AnaKasparian and #JimmyDore aren’t different. Both are now somewhat allied with the right. Both focus on and amplify the worst of the left and use that to earn credibility with right wing media. (2/3)

Side note: I’m not against private property ownership or #capitalism altogether. I believe that, at least, oligarchic and corporate forms of capitalism are inherently at odds with a functioning democracy where the government has a duty of care for all of its citizenry, not just the top tier.

I draw parallels to the apocalypse in Horizon because in both, the game and real life, we fed the system bad incentives. We’ve propped up a reality in which, similar to machines consuming biofuel, corporations thrive on human misery. Just compare their annual reports to our standard of living. 6/6

Brian has become the mascot for the villainy of the system. But it’s ultimately the system that’s the villain. Sure, the system is run by people. But we’re deeply entrenched in it that it’s a self-sustaining beast that’s resistant to change. CEO’s are replaceable. The system isn’t. 5/6

In totality, the harm Mangione caused does not even compare to that of Brian Thompson and other health insurance CEO’s whose victims are in the millions. Thing is, it was Brian’s fiduciary responsibility as a CEO to Delay, Deny, Defend the claims of as many as possible. 4/6

It is rational for #UnitedHealthcare to deny the claims of as many of its customers as possible. Maximisation of profit necessitates it. It also necessitates merging with startups and competitors. And it is in the competitors’ interest to be bought up. 3/6

Of course, private prison executives want excessive incarceration, defence contractors ensure the continuation of war and healthcare insurers pay out as little of people’s medical bills as possible. That is not what most people want. 2/6

An oligarchic form of society where political power is exceedingly concentrated at the top is incompatible with democracy. The output of a democratic system should, in theory, be governments that enact policies that help the vast majority of the citizenry. 1/6
