As every former journalist will tell you: "I'm a former journalist"
I'm not too worried about the exact platform but there should be some kind of direct, personalised communication that can easily be disseminated across others (including the traditional ones). X/BSky/even LinkedIn would still work for that IMO, alongside less regular video, probably through TikTok

I think you make fair points and I'll concede that if Starmer did these things, Labour would be getting better cut through. I do feel though that having an aide doing social on an MP's behalf loses the important element of personality that makes for truly great political communication

Clearly we don't want brain boiling, but given how much Labour is struggling to get its messages across in the modern media environment, I do wonder if daily, personalised micro blogging is simply the future for political communication. Trump has shown that the old methods simply no longer work

Isn't the greatest likelihood that Russia doesn't collapse but Putin is replaced by a hardliner who is even less palatable to the West?

Or at least they're prone to missing the substance is the rhetoric doesn't support it
December 31, 2025 at 3:02 AM
The left is frequently more interested in rhetoric that they can make an emotional connection with than actual policy substance

David Baddiel was bad at Taskmaster also

It's possible to be religious and not think gay sex is a sin. The median Lib Dem voter was simply not going to be comfortable with a leader who so severely disapproved of of gay people's mainstream sexual freedoms, even if that leader promised it wouldn't affect their policymaking.

Perhaps your point still stands in a way but it's worth saying that markets are at record highs right now.
September 26, 2025 at 9:33 PM
I just don't think that position can ever hold when your view is that all gay people are sinful for having sex. It won't fly in the modern era.

In 2015, Burnham was the only leadership candidate who understood what was happening with the Corbyn wave and tried to pivot his campaign accordingly. So it's surprising to me that he has made such a mess of this week.

Trump is pretty good at it. The leader of the future will be doing rolling bitesize self-commentary in informal language
August 21, 2025 at 5:02 PM
I'm not convinced it was done with this intention though? Maltilda's approach was also to "teach them a lesson", in this case the adults, and she was definitely the heroine of the story

Not that I'm at all optimistic, but Putin would be more likely to give ground with Ukraine absent from the talks. That way he could present the outcome as his decision rather than bowing to pressure from an enemy
August 10, 2025 at 6:08 PM
It's not really politics I suppose but there was a pretty dodgy scene in Louis where he pushed the boundaries of consent that is now much harder to give the benefit of the doubt

The point about AI summaries being served in search results is important because, as with the progression of cloud computing, we are shifting from people actively choosing to use AI to it just being the norm and not something we're particularly conscious of
August 6, 2025 at 6:39 PM
Without wanting to be too apocalyptic about it, there is a scenario where climate breakdown and its impacts are so severe that people return to religion for solace
July 20, 2025 at 2:39 PM
My view is that most metal fans are generally nice people who exorcise their anger and frustrations through a safe musical medium rather than real world actions

Our ageing population and the resulting cost to the taxpayer is another one that is simply not being discussed
July 8, 2025 at 9:11 AM
They are communications led in the sense that you outline but they are also terrible at defining a narrative/vision and explaining why they're doing things
July 6, 2025 at 7:44 AM
I don't know if MPs will pull the trigger but the comms around the cuts were so badly handled. And more generally the good things Labour is doing are being obscured by the lack of an overarching story. There needs to be a big change and it's not clear Starmer has the skills to deliver it

You're right that they didn't prepare the ground but it's because they were just tagging along with Netanyahu, it wasn't planned
June 24, 2025 at 6:32 PM
Possibly it was more of concern when there wasn't another right wing party apparently taking its place
