Would've been about the time (early/mid 90s) I was obsessed with Fox Fights Back on the Commodore 64 and The Animals of Farthing Wood on TV, so the idea of a smart fox getting one over on humans was probably plagiarised from there and escalated to "And then it eats them! And their dogs!"
