I started playing Path of Exile 1 for the first time recently. The Maori influence in their art style and lore came as an unexpected surprise -I had no idea this was made by a Kiwi studio! It feels very quaint and hits close to home. It reminds me of art and stories I read growing up. Cool game!

So far so good! I even managed to make rendering event driven.

IMGUIs are an amazing way to quickly prototype ideas and refine an algorithm. Some plugin devs do this in matlab, desmos, or similar, but I think sticking to your implementation language has some important advantages

This weekend I started working on my first immediate mode GUI library. It’s amazing how much you can do in so few lines of code!

I was studying recordings of the famous Square 4 sound from Maelstrom. I managed to create a filter that produces the same output when you run a square wave through it.

It’s available as “Comb 4” in Ghost v1.0.15. Go make some yoinks with it.

VSCode opens faster than Microsoft Notepad in Windows 11. This is a big regression from Windows 10, where Notepad opened in an instant.

VSCode will be my new default for .txt files

My builds are 100-150ms faster after upgrading AppleClang 15>16.

Currently sitting at ~2.2sec to build everything from source, incl. deps.

Good job LLM and Apple.

Six Sines is the audio-rate-modulation synth I've been working on for the last 40 days. After some great feedback and content from early users, I'm very happy to release 1.0.0 tonight.

Have fun making music with the synth! Bugs and Ideas to github/surge-discord please

Friendly reminder to backup all your important stuff.

I saved 99.9% of my backside today with my latest backup

I am too embarrassed to disclose the 0.1% I lost

Rent to own is basically ready and very well tested. I have some final touches to make on the website makeover, but it looks like it will be ready next week. Wew, getting back to working on features is just what I wanted for Christmas!

Hardly even using the FM matrix and GHOST is still fantastic. Something about the workflow that inspires me to work in a different way compared to other wavetable synths.
(sry for the low quality)

I finally upgraded my 10 yr old PC. This evening I have the pleasure of turning off as many Windows 11 telemetry and background services as I can find

I’m writing a manual for ghost atm. I find writing pretty hard, so I have to trick my brain into getting work done by visiting a cafe (pic related). In the past few days its become apparent just how feature rich ghost is when you start peeling back the layers. It makes writing about it complicated!

I’d really like to get back to working on new features but there’s so many small chores that keep eating up time, each of them important for their own reasons and overdue.
