Reconstructing Judaism: “We commit to the full inclusion, acceptance, appreciation, celebration and welcome of people of all gender identities… we condemn and grieve all […] bias, discrimination, violence, hatred and intimidation against transgender, non-binary & gender non-conforming individuals.”

United Church of Christ: “Demonizing and dehumanizing treatment of transgender, nonbinary, and gender diverse persons is anathema to the gospel of Jesus Christ, who teaches us to love our neighbor as we love ourselves.”

“The Union for Reform Judaism… proudly and unequivocally reaffirms our commitment to transgender inclusion. We are guided by the words of Genesis 1:27, which teaches that all people are created b’tzelem Elohim (in the Divine image) and deserve dignity and respect.”

The Fellowship of Affirming Ministries: “We nurture the spiritual lives of the transgender community as a living testimony that God’s Spirit is inclusive and fully present in all people.”

[Metropolitan Community Church’s] Core Values of inclusion, community, spiritual transformation, & justice are lived out in how we make a place at God’s table for everyone and challenge the oppressions that prevent us from fully living out the fullness that God’s unconditional love offers to us all.

“UUs believe that the ability to live ever-more authentically as one’s true self is central to a lifelong journey towards spiritual fulfillment and that our covenant as a faith inescapably binds us to affirm and protect our transgender and intersex members and kindred, in faith and in practice.”

It’s interesting: Newspaper food sections that mentioned the book when it was published say more about him than the book itself. Here’s a clip from the Los Angeles Daily News (12/1/1954). Also, his obituary in the Biloxi Sun (1/24/1983).

I am not optimistic, though, about Jesse Willis Lewis ever having seen profit from this book, though. And he’s only ever mentioned in the text by his first name.

I’ve got some oxtail in the freezer I was planning to braise for dinner next time our kids are over, so maybe I will try the recipe on page 89 :)

I’m guessing the source here is the recipe for baked eggplant with shrimp (or tuna) on page 128, except with squash instead of eggplant. Looks like a good book for inspiration!

Thank you! We will give one of these a try.

This California boy had not run across shrimp and squash casseroles before! Does this look like a decent place to start?

My eyes started rolling as soon as Begala’s name came up, and then I got to this quote and wondered why anyone would want an opinion from someone who characterizes the left like this. The “Mamdani’s win ain’t all that” take was icing on the cake.

It’s at the Centre International de Rencontres Mathématiques, just outside Marseilles. Last time I was there, most people (including me) projected slides 😢
