It's always interesting how narrowly the powerful want us to define violence. (This quote is from me late last year. It just happens to be incredibly relevant today.)
2024-12-04 Whether you steal from someone by holding a knife to them and making them give up their wallet or by committing wage theft, you have still stolen from them. Whether you falsely imprison someone by locking them in a closet or by harassing them when they step “out of place,” you have still falsely imprisoned them. Whether you starve a person by locking them up and refusing them food or by making food prohibitively expensive / inaccessible, you have still starved them. Whether you poison someone by slipping something into their food or by filling the atmosphere and drinking water with chemicals and greenhouse gases, you have still poisoned them. Whether you kill a person by shooting them or by denying their life saving medical care, you have still killed them. The U.S. is run by criminals and their abettors. It always has been. Structural violence is still violence and we are among its victims.

PeopleGrove, who I have to deal with because of my college, has an unconscionable privacy policy. Most students aren't going to catch just how much they're agreeing to share. I haven't even read their TOS yet.

They should be ashamed and so should my college for pressuring students to accept this.
