Mostly writing about Dublin pubs, until the transport operators get accounts so I can moan at them here instead

This months Revenue register is the last for this licencing year, and brings us to 145 premises that have been removed from the register in the 15 years of records I have

In 1972, the Sunday Independent had an unfortunately prophetic feature on fire safety in Dublin pubs and nightclubs. One of the places called out in detail put this snarky ad in the Herald a few days later. The pub burned down in 1990.

Despite very heavy rain, there's at least one Johns Eve bonfire going here. Can't see across the sea to see if there's a line along the coast, but there was last year.

Mr Tayto appears to have a love child from a brief tryst in Galicia

7 quid for a backup copy of one of my favourite tracks, that got limited to any real release - considering inflation that's less than my previous copy cost. Or the CD version cost. Yes, I do now have three promo copies of the same song.

One room, one man operated pub, one jacks, fiver pints. I may have picked where to break this journey overnight deliberately

Guinness used to make publicans caught labelling other stouts with their labels publish apologies in the papers. This is one of the latest I've ever seen, from 1951. This pub still exists, and hasn't sold Guinness at all for ages - its been a series of craft beer bars for well over 10 years!

Ancestry's Guinness archives are a bit hard to dig through, but have some gold for pub historians - books discussing the credit worthiness of each Guinness customer pub in the 20s with full address for instance

My old workplace in the CIÉ IT&T offices is now a pile of rubble. I'm currently ticking off the pub that was right beside the offices and nobody would ever go in to - Noctors. It's definitely a bit earthy, but I don't feel in any way unsafe

A very expensive bottle of Scraggy Bay on the patio at Hartleys finishes off the Railway Refreshment Rooms category of pubs in Dublin for me.

The worst pub name in Dublin is removed. The third refit in six years is underway to make The Sackville The Sackville again

The Bridge Inn in Dungloe (decent pub) is offering quite the range of music acts for its Townfest event in June...

The slog end of the Dublin pub ticking listing involves so many hotel lobbies and/or carvery dinners

Renault sold their Irish distributor to an Irish company who can't spell Ireland. Not entirely sure I want to give them >30k for a car now.

A few pub writeups ago I commented on a pub having a ceramic model of the actual pub on display, and how rare it was. This is the second one I've seen since

Terrible court reporting made me spend far too long finding out that the apparent worst pub in County Dublin - in 1950 - was actually *Patrick* Farrelly of *Firhouse*. Most recently Mortons Firhouse Inn, now closed.

Doing the Christmas decorations today, which means it's time to dig out pissed snowman and the reincarnation of Ronnie Drew as an owl again

We're used to Beamish having been sat in the market as the value proposition for stout; but I didn't realise they were doing it 97 years ago

Snarfed photo off the Arranmore History Facebook page - I would put an unreasonable amount of effort in to finding the equivalent of this for the Dublin court areas, as there's no record pre-2010 of licences currently available

I have my sources for new pubs opening, but sometimes they surface without me having any clue. Although it does look like this hasn't appeared online anywhere else yet.

For many reasons this is never going to unseat my island local, but I'm not sure this beer garden / beer garden view can be beat

I'm a week early for the dedicated vinyl fair here, but the permanent second hand record store at Mercantic still delivered

Ghost sign on the threshold of the Christchurch Inn, which has not been called The Pale for a very long time (and at least two name changes)

I'll have two halfs of Moretti there please. In a pint glass, but make sure to put it through as halfs.
