I do think it's strange that Cuomo's campaign strategy was to run against an Obama-like figure by being everything critics said was wrong about John McCain, namely, following the political preferences of a very unpopular incumbent. Obama won that election by 7 pts.

That's fair. I also think if Cuomo hadn't been a sexual predator he would still be governor unless he ended up becoming president. But Cuomo is in real life a predator and he was still voters' top choice other than Mamdani. He was the moderates' choice.

Cuomo had been the longest-serving sitting governor in the US at the time he resigned, and had lots of loyalty in NYC, and the majority-black neighborhoods in SE Queens who were part of his base of his primary run still ended up shifting to Mamdani in the general

Usually dems in a dem stronghold are not running against another democrat as well as a republican in a general election. In this context I don't think his win was particularly narrow, but more like a relitigation of the primary election in which his margin was much greater than Adams' four years ago

throughout this whole thread you've been doing what a lot of Christians do which is to insist that your faith demands that other people accept a bill of goods and ignore the brains that God provided us. It's a waste of your time. bsky.app/profile/mrjo...

I remember when a European told me on here that I was taking an overly-familiar tone by comparing the US and Europe in response to his post about immigration in Europe. I was like.... this is the default tone of microblogging my man

I think the majority of my conflict with Europeans and Canadians on this site is them basically accepting the MAGA framing on everything and implicitly assuming that no white people exist and have political power in the US
