We protect life, property, and the environment through prevention, preparedness, education and emergency response in Evergreen and Kittredge, Colorado.
Three residents erred on the side of caution this week and called 911 when they smelled something unusual. Firefighters didn’t find any hazards at any of 3 buildings. The incidents weren't dramatic, but we’re grateful they called 911 because moments like this help us protect YOU. #EverythingforYOU

EFR, JCSO, & Alpine Rescue Team responded to Maxwell Falls Jan. 2 for a stuck climber. Here, rescuers watch teammates rappelling to assist. Their role is rarely seen, but it matters because it ensures rescuer and victim safety. Everything we do, seen or unseen, is for YOU.

Please celebrate responsibly this week. Use a designated driver or public transportation, especially if you can't sing Auld Lang Syne without slurring the words (more than usual) because of alcohol or drug consumption. We wish you a safe and joyful New Year's Eve and New Year.

Clogs, flip-flops, and high heels all have their value, but they may not be the best choices for footwear on snowy or icy surfaces. As part of your fall prevention plan consider wearing properly fitting, sturdy, flat shoes with nonskid soles. These shoes also may reduce joint pain and back pain.

If you see a deer or other animal entangled in holiday lights, you can call *277 from your cell phone. That is the Colorado State Patrol non-emergency line. Dispatchers will send the right agency for that incident. This photo is courtesy of Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

If you have a fire inside your microwave oven while cooking, leave the door closed and push the stop or pause button. By cutting the heat, you'll break the Fire Triangle and the fire will go out. If you push the door open button, the heat stops, but fresh oxygen flows inside.

The EFR community paramedic program has grown tremendously since inception. During the 3rd Quarter, our team of four people connected with nearly 375 residents. Programs like this improve home safety for our senior community members so they can age in place and decrease the number of 911 transports.

Pairing training with community needs is one goal of EFR’s Master Plan. Our Firefighter Academy includes learning vehicle extrication techniques because crashes are too common in our community. #Everything4You

As you start decorating your homes and businesses for the winter holidays, please remember that electricity is enough of a heat source to cause fires, injuries, and even death. Instead of improvising wiring solutions, contact a vetted electrician and find a safe solution to your electrical needs.

Today we bid good-bye to our colleague and mentor Lloyd W. See. He served with Lakewood Fire Dept., West Metro Fire Rescue, Evergreen Fire/Rescue, and the US Air Force. He also was committed wholly to his family. Giving was a way of live for Lloyd and an inspiration for the rest of us.
