We protect life, property, and the environment through prevention, preparedness, education and emergency response in Evergreen and Kittredge, Colorado.
EFR, JCSO, & Alpine Rescue Team responded to Maxwell Falls Jan. 2 for a stuck climber. Here, rescuers watch teammates rappelling to assist. Their role is rarely seen, but it matters because it ensures rescuer and victim safety. Everything we do, seen or unseen, is for YOU.

Please celebrate responsibly this week. Use a designated driver or public transportation, especially if you can't sing Auld Lang Syne without slurring the words (more than usual) because of alcohol or drug consumption. We wish you a safe and joyful New Year's Eve and New Year.

Clogs, flip-flops, and high heels all have their value, but they may not be the best choices for footwear on snowy or icy surfaces. As part of your fall prevention plan consider wearing properly fitting, sturdy, flat shoes with nonskid soles. These shoes also may reduce joint pain and back pain.

If you see a deer or other animal entangled in holiday lights, you can call *277 from your cell phone. That is the Colorado State Patrol non-emergency line. Dispatchers will send the right agency for that incident. This photo is courtesy of Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

If you have a fire inside your microwave oven while cooking, leave the door closed and push the stop or pause button. By cutting the heat, you'll break the Fire Triangle and the fire will go out. If you push the door open button, the heat stops, but fresh oxygen flows inside.

If you haven't done so already, please spend a few minutes filling out a survey for the Jefferson County Hazard Mitigation Plan: bit.ly/HMPJeffCo. The plan will be more useful when more residents contribute to it. #Everything4You

The EFR community paramedic program has grown tremendously since inception. During the 3rd Quarter, our team of four people connected with nearly 375 residents. Programs like this improve home safety for our senior community members so they can age in place and decrease the number of 911 transports.

In the 3rd Quarter, the 90th percentile times for vehicles leaving the station was within 3 minutes and 5 seconds of dispatch and arriving at the incident less than 15 minutes later. Our neighborhood firefighters arrive even sooner from their homes. #BetterResponseBetterOutcomes #Everything4You

Many turkey fryers use large amounts of oil at high temperatures, which can cause devastating burns. If you want a fried turkey for your holiday meal, purchase it from a grocery store or restaurant, or buy a fryer that does not use oil. Check out this video from the @NFPA: youtu.be/kjUynq0HXdQ
