Knows a thing or two about EVs
But I would indulge an engine with a decent overlap of combustion strokes…
Model Y is the modern version of that car…

Look at their stock price, it will tell you how well this company is currently managed. Unbelievable that the CEO is still in place…

And base Emeya is better than top spec Emeya…
November 21, 2024 at 8:23 AM
I totally agree! Base Taycan is the best (I’m yet to drive a GTS)
November 21, 2024 at 8:22 AM
Taycan is way more expensive than the similar specced Emeya… Problem is they lack a base version. You could compare Eletre with EQS AMG and iX M60.

But yes, they blane the market instead of blaming their strategist who didn’t anticipate this and didn’t understand what their customer were looking for.

I don’t think they’re overpriced. Their spec are impressive and they drive very well, equivalent German or British would be waaay more. But they’re the wrong segment for Lotus: nobody walks into a Lotus dealer to buy luxury car. They should have done a smaller, lighter and sportier SUV.

And the interview of the CEO makes it very clear that Chinese intend to go around the BEV tariff by slapping a sh!tty petrol engine to their BEVs
November 21, 2024 at 7:40 AM
Seriously, who wants a Lotus with a range extender?
November 21, 2024 at 7:38 AM
Wouldn’t have had the same reach…

That’s torque… 🤓

Small cars are the best !

It started ok between these two, with L&C being hybrid and Zeekr BEV only but they since both have crossed path, essentially ending up competing against each other. Worth remembering that the Zeekr 001 was originally meant to be the L&C 001…

If you have a plug at home, then the couple of trips a year where you’d need to charge don’t justify the pain points (incl cost and service) above. If you don’t, then you’ll need to find a public charging point twice as often… in addition to your petrol station visits!

They are very poor petrol car too. The serial hybrid configuration makes them an efficiency nightmare and their small engine needs to run at high rpm/load, ruining the noise and comfort experience. You get the BEV driveability and performance but a shitty engine soundtrack in the background.
November 12, 2024 at 12:57 PM
As BEV, they have a small battery so need to be charged more often. A challenge if you don’t have your own plug. Plus, carrying an engine, fuel tank, … makes them heavier and bigger than they need to be. The need for more cooling and an exhaust line makes them less aerodynamic too.

Range extender PHEV are designed to be primarily EV, but can use an engine as a generator to charge the battery. In theory it’s the best of both world, in reality, for most applications, it’s the worst configuration possible.
