Nice concept from Mercedes. We’re just at the beginning of the innovation curve for all sort of systems which can be further optimised for BEV applications. This solution seems to offer potential benefits for reliability, emissions and efficiency.

Chinese OEM will try to flood EU market with PHEV… Growth for range extender PHEV in China is big, they are seen as more premium than BEV. In EU, they might be used as a way around the newly imposed tariffs on BEV. Hopefully the EU will react quickly!

The EU ICE ban of 2035 needs to be brought forward. We know the car usage will go down and there is currently a huge stock of ICE cars which will still be fine for another 15-20y. ICE cars sold today will be obsolete before their end of life and somebody will need to pay for that...

I wonder if this one will go in the history books as a mild failure as the X is. Both suffer from stubborn design decisions and would have been much better cars without some of their key features (falcon doors, windshield slope, ...)

Toyota strategy is a mess! One day they talk about how their ammonia engine would make EV irrelevant, the next about their versatile EV plateform... They need a very substantial revamp of their strategy if they want any chance to be still relevant in 5y...
