There's not much to be done to cut down on Amazon, especially in remote areas, beyond buying directly from companies when possible instead of their Amazon storefronts. I've been trying to choose small businesses where possible, too - like, I needed a notebook of graph paper for designing a craft project, so I ordered from Cognitive Surplus, which is a self-described women and minority owned business, with an inclusive workplace and sustainable practices. Basically, shop local first, shop online small businesses if you can't source locally, and if you have to order from or shop at the local branch of a big box store because you can't get it elsewhere or need it more urgently than shipping can make it happen, do it
