If this indeed is the end of the Assad regime, it is difficult not to reflect on all the death, suffering and destruction that have taken place since the peaceful protests began in connection with the so-called Arab Spring. Much could have been very different.

At no point since the end of the Cold War has military spending surged as fast as it did in 2024, when it rose 9.4 percent.

Just a clarification: Decisions on G7 membership are subject to the unanimous backing of all members. Thus, the United States alone cannot decide to give Russia the opportunity to rejoin.

UNGA 3rd Com has adopted a resolution on #humanRights situation in #Iran, referencing the 1988 mass executions; 1st official acknowledgement by global community of those crimes against humanity. Crucially important at a time when Iran's state media has called for a repeat of the 1988 executions.

The Gulf states alongside Egypt, Jordan and Turkey are opposed to the establishment of residential blocs under Israeli occupied Gaza and believe that reconstruction must be in conjunction with the deployment of the ISF, which these very same countries want to first be deployed in place of the IDF.

The joint military exercises in the Eastern Mediterranean might benefit the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) even if this isn't a declared intent. Their mere presence can provide deterrence.
