I think that's true... for people on bluesky. I don't think the real world Dem base struggles to understand "civil servants are good actually." If I were a dem staffer in any office, I wouldn't prioritize trying to convince furious, anonymous people online who may not even be Americans.

There's a lot of hopium about "well we'll make the party what WE want" or "fine we'll start our OWN party" and even though this comes from allegedly serious people, the tone is not "I've thought this through and have a plan" it's "MOM YOU'LL REGRET IT WHEN I RUN AWAY YOU'LL SEE"

If it's any consolation, this site is like, maybe, at most optimistic, 3% of the total electorate.
Also a bunch of the people complaining the loudest don't vote anyway, which is part of why we're in this position.

The shutdown had no direct method to restore funding, only hopes that indirect pressure might work, and was always a gamble, and always had other consequences. You're right to be pissed, and it's a travesty that we're going to let 51k Americans potentially die because the GOP hates Obamacare.

But those 51k people are not at risk because the Dems stopped supporting a shutdown. They're at risk because, even with defections, the Senate passed a bill that said "we're getting rid of those" in July.
