I visited the church of St. Basil at Toller Fratrum (Dorset) today to marvel at the extraordinary late saxon font. The church was originally part of a Knights Hospitaler establishment.

A plant that always signifies hope - Pulmonaria (Boraginacese). The first wild bees of the year are not far away now here in Salisbury (southern England). We usually get our first Anthophora plumipes in the last 10 days of February. Now there's something to cheer

9th century Saxon carved cross shaft in St Peter's, Codford (Wilts.). It is in superb condition and can not ever have been exposed to the elements. I think the man is grasping at grapes on a vine. Not sure the carver had ever actually seen grapes though!
